About Jamie and Jill
Meet Jill
What I Do: I’m a librarian, writer, and historian and I talk about Louisa May Alcott a lot.
What I Love About Louisa: I love her self-confidence and her drive, the way she stuck to her principles, and her complexity and messiness. I’m especially interested in her process and motivations as a writer as well.
Favorite book by Louisa May Alcott: Hospital Sketches!
Favorite movie version of Little Women: 1994. Winona Ryder will always be my Jo March.
Beverage of choice: Coffee, coffee, and more coffee. A hazelnut cafe au lait if I’m treating myself.
Hobbies: Writing, gardening, traveling to Ireland, hiking, reading, and spending time with my family. Did I mention talking about Louisa May Alcott?
Meet Jamie
What I Do: I teach special education at a public elementary school.
What I Love About Louisa: I love her range. She wrote gothic tales, memoirs, realistic fiction. She wrote essays and articles. Her letters are filled with her good humor, and her journals tell with vulnerability about a life close to poverty. She is candid, funny, and alive in her personal writing, which is how I also strive to be in writing.
Favorite book by Louisa May Alcott: Hospital Sketches is autobiographical and less watered down. Like Little Women but better!
Favorite movie version of Little Women: The Greta Gerwig version really stole my heart--all the versions are special in their own ways, but there's really nothing like that Timothée Chalamet/Florence Pugh combo for me (Amy is my favorite!)
Beverage of choice: Decaf PG Tips with honey and a splash of milk.
Hobbies: In addition to studying the Alcotts, I love to speak French, play the guitar, crochet, and listen to Taylor Swift.
